In 1967 the Methodist Church transited from Methodist Missionary Society (UMS) to the current Methodist Church in Kenya (MCK). Previously, only the Europeans (missionaries) were given leadership positions in the Church in Kenya and the rest of Africa. As such that is when the first African Presiding Bishop was appointed. His name was Samuel Ronald Mung'ong'o. Since then there has been a number of leadership changes with one person serving twice.
The following is a list of all of them.
Samuel Ronald Mung'ong'o - [1916- 1994]
He served as the first presiding bishop from 1967-1970. The Rev. Lawi Imathiu served as the secretary of the conference.

Rev. Johana Mbogori
Born in Meru Rev Mbogori became the presiding bishop in the year 1981 and served for only three years until 1984 when he was replaced by his predecessor.

Dr. Imathiiu returned for a second stint at the helm of the church in 1985 and led for seven years till 1992. During this period he is credited with the bringing up the idea of establishing a university that is sponsored by the church. A dream that came true 5 years after the end of his second stint.
Rev. Prof Zablon Nthamburi [1943]
Born in Meru in the year 1943, the academic became the 5th PB and the fourth man to occupy that position in the year 1993 and he lead for two terms until 2002.
Rev. Dr. Stephen Kanyaru [1943]
Born in the year 1943 like his predecessor, Dr. Kanyaru rose to the helm in 2003 and also led for ten years up until the year 2012.
Rev. Joseph Ntombura
He was born in Mbaranga location of Meru county in the year he took over form Dr. Kanyaru and led for 11 years from 2013 to 2023 before he was forced out of office due to some internal wrangles in the church. During the tail head of his tenure he served as the Preside of the Methodist church in Africa.
Rev. Isaiah Deye [1962]
As of writing this article the Rev. Isaiah Deye is the current Presiding Bishop of the church.
